Location: Flexible (Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania or Uganda)
Position Overview
Main objective of the function
At Solidaridad, we believe that conservation and development should go hand in hand. Our experience shows that it is a win-win: development of alternative livelihoods is a pre-condition for conservation, while robust ecosystems are an indispensable component of resilient livelihoods. This is ever more true in vulnerable communities and in the face of climate change. In order to further develop our ambitious programme for the sub-region, we are looking for a Project Manager. Together with our young team, you will develop proposals for rural development in ways that support the conservation of high conservation value areas.
Organizational position
The Project Manager will work closely with the regional project teams, regional innovations team (such as, climate and landscapes, digital innovation, impact investment and gender), and quality functions team (including finance, communications, operations and PMEL), for alignment to organizational procedures. The Project Manager will also work closely with Solidaridad Network team members. The Project Manager shall report directly to the Managing Director, Eastern and Central Africa.
Roles and Responsibilities
As Project Manager, you will:
Build, strengthen and deepen relationships with partners, including governments, donors and private sector, in particular in the agricultural and forestry sectors.
Influence the donor agenda and advise on sustainable development strategies.
Co-create programmes, including public-private partnerships, that address the combined plight of rural people and their environment.
Develop inclusive value propositions and proposals for dedicated companies in relevant sectors, including business models for smallholder farmers.
Actively secure funding and participate in business development.
Support contract development and management.
Represent Solidaridad and present our work at key fora and expert meetings.
You are passionate about nature conservation and improving the livelihoods of rural people. You are an energetic team player, bring excellent representation skills and are able to connect with others easily. You take initiative and are a fast thinker.
Key Qualifications
You have academic-level understanding of agriculture, forestry, and/or natural resources management.
Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as natural sciences, (agricultural) economics, or management.
You have a track record in proposal development and/or fundraising. Business development experience is an advantage.
You bring concrete ideas to the table.
At least 5 years of relevant work experience and an excellent professional network within Eastern and Central Africa.
Intercultural sensitivity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
Very good networking and representation skills, proactive and entrepreneurial attitude.
Able to travel extensively within Eastern and Central Africa and occasional international travel.
Excellent communication skills with ability to produce professional reports in English language.
Good command of English and French required.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
