The Research Manager will report to the Senior Director for West and Central Africa and will be responsible for managing the research team, clients, and of the internal workings of individual projects (i.e. timelines, budgets, and deliverables). In Particular, the responsibilities of the Research Manager, include:
· Serving as the lead contact for the research department manage, develop relationships with clients and partners including government bodies, donors, UN agencies, NCOs, private sector enterprises and civil society associations and identify potential new projects;
· Actively tracking all available staff, their levels of utilization, and their skillsets;
· Actively tracking all ongoing and incoming/nascent projects, and appropriately matching people/teams and their toolkits with projects;
· Tracking available logistical and financial resources in collaboration with the finance and operations department, and matching them appropriately with teams to enable the seamless execution of projects;
· Performing periodic performance reviews for country research staff;
· Delegating roles within projects;
· Attending meetings with current and potential clients, major planning meetings and other cluster government meetings;
· Introducing innovation and best practices to enhance research programs and operational performance;
· Contributing to internal discussions on strategy, policy and organizational issues including attending strategy review meetings;
· Overseeing and reviewing the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revising the schedule as required;
· Monitoring and approving budgeted project expenditures;
· Managing all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures;
· Setting up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured;
· Overseeing a growing team of 10 Research Officers, Senior and Junior Researchers, as well as Enumerators and Consultants in the implementation of research projects;
· Providing analysis, interpretation, decision-making processes reporting, coordination and management of the administrative and operational structure of the research department, including the development of project proposals with the business development department;
· Performing other tasks as agreed with the Senior Director for West and Central Africa, Managing Director and Senior Director of Research and Client Services.

Skills
o M.A. degree (or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international development, or a related field with 2+ years of work experience, OR B.A. degree (o equivalent) with 5+ years of work experience;
o At least 1 year of experience (professional or academic) conducting quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis, in the research, monitoring and evaluation sector;
o Experience collecting quantitative and/or qualitative data will be considered an asset;
o Prior experience managing budgets and project timelines preferred;
o Project management experience will be considered an advantage;
o Excellent working knowledge of Stata, SPSS, or R required;
o Excellent reporting skills in English and French;
o Experience collaborating with and managing diverse, multi-cultural teams preferred;
o Willingness to train teams
o Eagerness to learn and be pushed into new areas, and ability to learn from mistakes;
o Ability to work independently in a stressful environment with minimal supervision;
o Ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines;
o Creativity and an ability to think outside the box to conceptualize projects and implementation
strategies;
o Prior experience living and working abroad, preferably in a developing country;
o Cultural sensitivity, sense of humor and a ‘can do’ attitude;
o Fluency in written and spoken French, advanced knowledge of English;
o Knowledge of Lingala, Tshiluba or Swahili will be considered an asset
o Working experience in Central Africa will be considered an asset
The position is based in Kinshasa, DRC with periodic travel to the field. Any and all locations may be high-risk and hardship postings. Travel will be approved based on the Forcier’s Standard Security Operating Procedures.
