About MAG

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the DRC Programme

Between 1996 and 2003, the Democratic Republic of Congo was the site of the most deadly conflict since World War Two, which led to as many as 5.4 million deaths and left the country contaminated by landmines and unexploded ordnance. MAG has been working in DRC since 2004 removing and destroying landmines and carrying out risk education work with communities, to raise awareness of the problems and promote safe behaviour. We are also the only non-governmental organisation accredited to carry out arms management and destruction initiatives in the country, which began in 2006.

About the role

Reporting to the Country Director, the Programme Officer will have responsibilities for proposal development, report writing, grant management and assisting the Country Director in ensuring the programme meets its contractual requirements. You will be based in Kinshasa and travel to operational sites throughout DRC as required. The role is initially until the end of August 2018, but may be extended further dependant on funding.

About you

The successful candidate will need experience working overseas in international aid or development, ideally in a conflict / post conflict environment, and be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. The ability to produce written material of the highest quality is essential. Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience writing reports and proposals for a wide range of institutional donors. The role requires fluent written and spoken language skills in both French and English.
