MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
Contractor will be required to work at least, but not limited to, 40 hours per week on the following:
Provide daily technical advice, mentoring, and guidance to Congolese judicial investigators and prosecutors in relation to economic and environmental crimes in North and South Kivu provinces.
Support the process of evidence-gathering in relation to economic and environmental crimes.
Contribute to the facilitation of priority case selections.
Assist in the maintenance of information management systems for economic and environmental crimes.
Guide the development of prosecutorial strategies for economic and environmental crimes.
Attend and contribute to restitutions, capacity-building workshops, and seminars on an as-needed basis.
Provide minor logistical support for USIP staff, as needed.
Update and liaise with USIP headquarters staff as well DRC-based project partners on above deliverables on a weekly basis via phone calls and written reports.
Provide regular assessments of prosecutorial capacity in relation to economic and environmental crimes and confidential briefings regarding on-going investigations.
Write final report at end of contract period for USIP on progress of Congolese judicial investigators and prosecutors and recommendations for next steps
Participate in a performance evaluation
QUALIFICATIONS
A Juris doctorate or master's degree with exceptional experience is required.
A minimum of ten years of experience in international judicial assistance and/or programs tackling natural resource-related conflict financing.
Demonstrated expertise in material evidence-gathering methods.
Strong legal as well as analytical writing abilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work closely with and gain the trust of Congolese counterparts.
French language proficiency.
This position is subject to the availability of funds. The initial term of the position will be determined subject to the availability of secured funding, and is eligible for renewals based on continued funding.
All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
